Bringing the ancient spirit of the woodland to life is wonderfully simple when you fuse soft terracotta clay with a rustic wood base. Start by pressing a thick slab of terracotta clay directly onto a flat wooden plank, leaving organic thumbprints and textures for a raw, earthy background. From there, sculpt low-relief features straight into the slab by pinching a strong nose, carving deep-set watchful eyes beneath heavy brows, and shaping a flowing beard of roots or textured lines. Build a dynamic crown by collaging individual oak-style leaves across the forehead, scoring delicate veins and curling the tips to catch the light. Finally, let the wood-mounted sculpture dry slowly, leaving you with a timeless guardian that bridges the warmth of baked clay with the grain of the forest floor.
